At the foothills of Himalayas in the Northern region, is Corbett National Park, christened after Jim Corbett, the well known British sportsman and naturalist. The forest belt from here along the Terai region is one of the finest habitats of the Tiger, and in 1973, Project Tiger, conceived for the total protection of the Tiger, was inaugurated here.
