She stands at a massive 8,848 metres or 29,029 feet above sea level, her summit is the highest point on the planet and she haunts most mountaineers’ dreams. She is Chomolungma, the Holy Mother, or as the common man knows her Mt Everest.

George Mallory was once asked why he wanted to climb Everest and he simply replied, “Because it’s there”, whether or not he managed it is one of biggest mysteries of our time but one thing is known, he never came back home.

She is elusive and temperamental. It requires a great amount of determination, skill and her blessing to be able to stand atop her. But that does not mean that one cannot visit her and kiss the ground that she stands on.

Welcome to the Everest Base Camp or EBC. For trekkers and climbers alike going to the EBC is like going on a pilgrimage. The trek is something that one must do at least once in their lifetime (author’s opinion). The views are to die for, you get to meet so many people from various nationalities that its almost like an international fest.

Bring out your trekking shoes (or buy a pair if you don’t have them) and go visit the Mother of all mountains, if you are lucky she might let you come back and climb to the top of the world.
