Shey, Thiksey & Hemis
Gompas- Shey Gompa lies on the way to Hemis. Situated
on the top of hill, it houses the largest victory stupa with a
golden top. The statues here are made of copper & glided
with gold. Thiksey Gompa lies on the left side of this road,
and overliiks the breathtaking indus Valley. While, a short
drive takes you to Hemis. The oldest, wealthiest & largest
Gompa in Leh.
Shankar & Spituk Gompa -
Built by the Japanese, Shankar Gompa is associated
with Spituk Gompa & serves as the residence of the Head
Lama. Equally amazing is the Leh Palace. A 9 storied palace,
that's a reflection of the grand Tibetan architecture. It is
said to have inspired the famous Potala in Lhasa.
Pangong Tso (Alt: 14,500 ft.) -
This long, narrow lake extends from east to west
through the whole length of Ruthong region of Tibet, to the
neighbourhood of Chisul. Rare black-necked cranes & other
migratory birds are seen here. The Pangong lake water is
slightly salty.
Khardung-la- One of
the highest motorable roads in the world, Kharkung-la is a
gateway to Nubra Valley. Enroute it allows you to have a
magnificent view of the mountains like Parcha Khangri, Stok
Khangri etc.
