Khufu’s Final Resting Place

Here is the one mystery that is possibly the most discussed, researched, documented and widely known. The Great Pyramids of Giza. We know why they were built, who they were built for, when they were built. To some extent we also know how they were built. You, dear traveller, then might ask where the mystery lies, if we already know so much?

The mystery lies in the proportions of the pyramids in contrast to when they were built, between the years 2560 BC and 2540 BC. Let us take a comparison to better understand how massive they really are. The Great Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure on earth for 3800 years (until the French went and built the Eiffel Tower in 1889).

The theories regarding how this ancient people managed to lift the humongous blocks of stone, some of which weighed up to 50 tonnes, are as numerous as there are stars in the night sky. One also wonders about the mathematical prowess of the ancient Egyptians as the pyramids are all perfectly aligned to the four compass points based on true north and not on the magnetic north. Even the four corners of the pyramid are only off from each other by a few millimetres.

Whether or not you are interested in the mystery surrounding the pyramids of Egypt you should still come and see the last standing wonder of the ancient world.
