Daman and Diu

Daman and Diu

Daman and Diu is a union territory in India. It is approachable both from the states of Gujrat and Maharashtra by road. Mumbai is around a 170 km and Surat is around 90 km by road. There is a flight from Mumbai as well. Daman and Diu were part of the Portuguese colonies till 1961 for 450 years till India took military action to get them back along with Goa.

Daman and Diu is on the Arabian Coast and still heavily influenced by the Portuguese culture. The architecture, the cuisine and the way of live has distinct footprints of the Portuguese all perfectly blended into the Indian culture.
The beaches here are exquisite as is the cuisine.

It makes for the perfect weekend getaway where you can relax without being bothered by the multitudes that can normally be found in the rest of India. Walk around and talk to the locals who will be able to tell you about the hidden and more secluded beaches. The island of Diu can be traversed on a bicycle and try to get one as it will be a good experience. Take in the sights and sounds, see the local dresses and sample the food.

If you have travelled in other places in India you will see a marked difference in the culture between the neighbouring states and here.

So hop on and come to a rather unknown paradise!
